CUP Services delivers a comprehensive yet flexible package of fulfillment services which can be tailored to meet the needs of individual client presses. We develop a sales dollar commission rate for each client, based on its order and shipping profile. This single rate covers shipping and packaging supplies, 800/EDI ordering service, invoice forms, report formatting, and credit card fees. The only additional costs are those for such non-sales services as freight for free copy requests, exhibit order processing, and stock transfers. CUP Services prides itself on its ability to provide individualized service to a diverse group of publishers, enabling them to better focus their resources on the business of publishing and marketing books.
The size of its combined client base enables CUP Services to manage accounts receivable more effectively than can smaller operations, and as a result, it has experienced write-offs that are well below industry averages. All credit accounts are managed by experienced A/R representatives who are responsible for specific customers. Accounts receivable proceeds collected from customers are dispatched to client publishers promptly each month, and are backed by the full faith and credit of Cornell University.
A powerful IBM RS 6000 computer system runs CUP Services' state-of-the-art version of the CIS.PUB fulfillment package, which has been extensively modified and upgraded to meet the ever-changing needs of clients and customers. A wide variety of sales and inventory reports are available in both printed and electronic format, along with real-time access to the system through a secure Internet firewall. EDI capabilities are continually expanding, and CUP Services is now an electronic trading partner with Pubnet, Ingram, and Barnes & Noble. In addition, the system is capable of supporting sales of "e-books" and "print-on-demand" titles. As an enterprise dedicated solely to providing publishing fulfillment, CUP Services is committed to keeping its computer systems and other support equipment completely up-to-date, thereby ensuring quality service at competitive rates.
